Weighing the Message: The Grail and its Castle

The raison d’être of all occult systems is frequent contact and communion with the spirit realm and the evil spirits therein.

Of course, many occult and New Age groups will deny that the spirits they are interacting with are demon spirits, but when one integrates Biblical understanding, weighs their spiritual experiences and evaluates their lives and beliefs, the true source of their power becomes clear.

While some people feel that the Grail movement is questionable, they still cling to the Grail message as divine.

But even if we detach the Grail message from the movement disseminating it, it’s impossible for us to separate it from its source: the spirit realm (or “Grail castle”) where Oskar Bernhardt received his message and the spirit(s) that inspired him.

If a revelation is from the realm of Satan and his fallen angels, then it’s satanic. It matters not whether that revelation comes under the rubric of a visible organization or it’s being followed personally.

In the Bible, the lines are clearly drawn and there’s no neutral place. Any revelation or supernatural experience that does not come from God certainly comes from His enemy, Satan.

In this article, all quotes (unless otherwise indicated) are taken from Vol. 2, chapter 34 of In the Light of Truth by Ab-dru-shin.

“Manifold are the interpretations of the legends which exist about the Holy Grail. The most serious scholars and investigators have occupied themselves with this mystery. Much of their work has high moral value, but it all contains one great fault, i.e. the fact that they have built only from the earth upwards, while the essential thing, the ray of light from above, which alone could bring life and enlightenment, is missing.”

Here, Abdrushin is building on the medieval occult legend of the Holy Grail.

A popular version of the legend says the Holy Grail was the cup Jesus used at the Last Supper and at the crucifixion which received the blood flowing from His side. It was allegedly brought to Britain by Joseph of Arimathea, where it lay hidden for centuries.

The search for the vessel became the principal quest of the knights of King Arthur. The Grail was believed to be kept in a mysterious castle surrounded by a wasteland and guarded by a custodian called the Fisher King, who suffered from a wound that refused to be healed.

King Fisher’s recovery and the renewal of the blighted lands depended on the successful completing of the quest i.e. by making contact with the Grail. A “worthy” knight of the round table (Sir Parsifal) delivers the Grail to the king, and fertility was restored to the land.

Abdrushin claims to receive his version of the legend through a ray of enlightenment from above. To him, the Holy Grail, is not symbolic of an earthly vessel or edifice but is a real place where all creation supposedly came from.

Please note that one of the features of the occult is:  luring in non-initiates with esoteric or secret knowledge.

The prospect of having access to a “mysterious” spiritual knowledge – which no one else has ever known until a German 20th century mystic arrived on the scene – holds great fascination for the unsaved. Once people forsake the Bible – God’s Word of truth – there’s no limit to the height and depth of their delusion.

“The existing interpretations are not without great moral value, but they cannot claim to be an explanation of the legends, much less an approach to the truth about the Holy Grail.”

Since the Grail myth forms the fountainhead of Abdrushin’s messages, we need to take a closer look at it. The legend of the Holy Grail first appears in a written text in Chretien de Troyes’s Old French verse romance, the Conte de Graal (‘Story of the Grail’) or Perceval (c. 1180).

During the next 50 years, several prose and verses re-tell the story with varying details but two major versions stood out between 13th-15th centuries.

The legend of the “holy grail” actually came from Celtic pagan myths in which magical vessels or “the horn of plenty” were said to satisfy the tastes and needs of all who ate and drank from them giving them health, unquenchable food and victory in battle.

Of course, the legend of King Arthur, Guinevere and Lancelot is steeped in Paganism and Witchcraft but this has been thinly disguised in modern versions.

In the older pagan versions, the Grail is the cauldron of the goddess or a metaphor for sex with the goddess. King Fisher is also called “the Divine King” which constitutes a core myth of paganism and witchcraft.

The Rite of the Divine King teaches that the king (and/or high priest) is magically linked to the land over which he ruled.

If the king sickens, the land suffers; if he prospers, the land prospers. Thus, if the land is in bad shape, royal blood must be shed to heal the land. This was the theory underlying the dying and rising fertility gods of pre-Christian Europe.

That Abdrushin would utilize the Grail occult myth to extend the frontiers of his own teachings shows that he was not inspired by the Spirit of God and the realm he speaks of is not heaven. God is not the inspirer of pagan lies and fairy tales.

Even in a logical sense, you can’t face a wrong direction and arrive at the right destination. If you start out with a pagan delusion you will definitely end up with more pagan delusions, not godly truth.

Abdrushin’s version of the Grail legend is merely one more interpretation to the others previously existing.

“No human spirit, even in its final greatest perfection and immortality, will ever be able to face the Holy Grail Itself! It is for this reason that no detailed tidings about it can ever extend from there earthward into the World of Matter, unless a Messenger is sent from there.”

This whole ‘Holy Grail’ concept, though a romanticization of ancient cultures combined with a passionate interest in fantasy and science fiction, is simply a mystical code term Abdrushin used for introducing his followers to the demonic spirit realm.

The God of the Bible is not sought through any Grail whether literal or symbolic. He has revealed Himself through Jesus Christ for every man to know and fellowship with Him. “For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus.” (1 Tim. 2:5).

“In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways,  but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe (Heb. 1:1-2).

As far as God’s Kingdom is concerned, there is no messenger being sent to proclaim a set of teaching from some “mysterious” pagan Grail. The only saving message is the Gospel – the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

But the Bible speaks about another kingdom which consists of a host of fallen angels who rebelled against God and were cast out of heaven; they are ruled by their master, Satan (Ezekiel 28:11–17; Isaiah 14:12–15; Revelation 12:7–9).

Satan’s kingdom, though wielding much influence in the physical world, is primarily located in the spirit realm. Since humans are made in God’s image and possess a spirit/soul, they have the ability to contact the spirit realm.

Those who have been saved by Christ have access to God through Jesus Christ, whereas the unsaved – through various occult and Christless groups – have access to Satan’s realm through the agency of demon spirits.

Of course, these spirits often disguise themselves as angels of light and manipulate the spirit realm to suit the belief system of the initiate; after all, theirs is a kingdom of deception (2 Cor. 11:14).

“Parsifal is a great promise … Parsifal is identical with the Son of Man, Whose coming the Son of God Himself promised. As a Divine Messenger, with His spiritual eyes blindfolded, He will have to go through the most bitter hardships on earth, as man among men. After a certain time, freed from this blindfold, He must recognize His origin and therewith Himself, as well as clearly see His mission.”

This could be referring to a coming “world teacher” or the Antichrist, but in another lecture, Oskar said:

Parsifal was linked with the gross matter in Abdrushin. Therefore Abdrushin was Parsifal and also Imanuel, through the continued direct connections of the radiations which creation cost great preparation and effort.(Lecture no. 57: Let there be light!).

Oskar claims to be a luminous servant of God and equates himself with Parsifal, the knight who delivered the grail to the “divine king.” He, like most cult leaders all through history, elevated himself to a divine plane and claimed to be predicted by Jesus Christ, but the message he brought and the legendary Parsifal have nothing to do with the Jesus of the Bible.

“This also applies the human spirit. It originates from the Sphere of Spiritual Substantiality, to which it may return as a conscious spirit in substantiate form if, after its course through the World of Matter, it has achieved its highest state of perfection and attained living purity.”

Grail adherents believe that creation emerged from some “divine radiations” in the spiritual sphere which were given consciousness, form and personality and made to become beings and entities. This is a substantial occult lie.

God spoke other creations into existence “out of nothing” (ex-nihilo) except man whom He formed and gave life to (Gen. 2:7).

Before creation, man didn’t pre-exist whether in spirit form or otherwise and there is no “progression” of souls through reincarnation.

We didn’t come from “the sphere of spiritual substantiality” and there are only two eternal destinations beyond this earth: Heaven and Hell (Matt. 25:34, 41).

In a bid to seduce his followers into utilizing occult powers, Abdrushin denied the existence of heaven, hell, as well as good and evil powers, claiming that there is only one power. This is found in Vol. 2, ch. 1 titled “Responsibility”:

“When schools and churches speak of Heaven and hell, of God and the devil, this is right. It is wrong, however, to explain it as good and evil powers. That must at once plunge every serious seeker into error and doubt…”

Here, he is espousing a pagan philosophy called Monism (“All is one,” therefore there can be no evil). But the Bible makes a clear distinction between God and Satan; heaven and hell; life and death (Deut. 30:19-20; Job 1:8; Lk. 10:17-19 etc.). It is the height of irrationality to conflate two existing parallels into one.

While it’s true that all powers belong to God, the power wielded by the devil and his minions are used for evil and it will ultimately be stripped from them by God and they – along with all who follow them and their teachings – will be eternally consigned to the lake of fire (Rev. 20:10).

No Gnostic philosophy or “luminous ascent” a person claims to have on earth will alter this eternal reality.

“In the best of cases, its path may lead it to the forecourt of the Grail Castle which stands at the highest point in Spiritual Substantiality and forms the gateway to the steps of the throne, on which the source of all being, God the Father in His Divine Unsubstantiality, dons at times the cloak of Divine Substantiality i.e. takes on form.”

Let’s break this down a little: there’s a Grail castle in the spirit realm which houses this “holy grail,” and like the Eckankar cult also teaches, there are different spheres or levels in this realm, of which the Grail castle stands at its highest point.

Though Oskar throws in “God the Father” as a smokescreen, it’s clear that he’s using the legend of the Grail to introduce the seeker to a high-ranking entity and its location.

In vol. 3 ch. 32 titled “The Primordial Queen,” Oskar wrote that there are archangels and the eternal ones called ‘the elders’ before the steps of the throne of ‘God’ where the Grail castle is located. Then he said:

Elizabeth is the very foremost Divine-Substantiate embodiment of Pure Divine Love, which as the only one therein took on the most ideal womanly conformation … And there the Primordial Queen of womanhood has Her being and has a throne in the Grail Castle of the Divine part! … Beside Her are the Archangels, and further downwards the eternal Elders who are called the Old Ones…”

In plain terms, the so-called holy grail symbolizes the Queen of heaven (Oskar calls her “Elizabeth”) and she’s a demonic entity in Satan’s kingdom! Even Dan Brown for all his fictitious clothing admitted:

“The Holy Grail represents the sacred feminine and the goddess…” (The Da Vinci Code, UK: Bantam Books, 2003, p. 238)

Notably, in witchcraft and Satanism, they use the term “great old ones” to refer to demon spirits or “demigods.” Some call them “Cthulhu mythos.”

“In this chalice, the contents swirl and surge increasingly, like red blood, without ever overflowing. Enveloped as it is in the most Luminous Light, only the purest of all spirits in the realm of Spiritual Substantiality are granted permission to look into this Light. These are the guardians of the Holy Grail!”

Now that we know the true identity of Ab-dru-shin’s “holy grail,” we can understand why he employed these occult philosophical terms. This is an unholy grail and the spirits in that realm are anything but pure.

In witchcraft, the chalice or goblet is symbolic of the element of water and is the symbol of the Goddess, particularly her womb which connotes fertility (Frederic Lamond, Fifty Years of Wicca, Green Magic, 2005, pp. 125-126).

There are three major occult/pagan concepts reiterated here:

a) The dove that “appears above the chalice” is not referring to the Holy Spirit of the Bible. In pagan myths, doves were sacred to Astarte, Aphrodite and Isis who were worshipped as goddesses of bodily love and fertility. They were represented having a dove above their heads. Many pagans see Astarte and Isis as names for the queen of heaven.

b) “The renewal of power” brought about through that communion is of fertility – “bringing new life and a new urge to create” on Grail messengers. More like bodily ‘love.’

Like I said at the beginning of this article, the purpose of all occult rituals is to contact the spirit realm and have the evil spirits there to be present with the participants. And as a former high-ranking ex-Satanist said, there’s a strong kind of magnetic force that attaches the spirit world to the physical world.

c) One of the Grail festivals celebrated annually on May 30 is called “the Festival of the Holy Dove.” They claim it’s linked with the event of Pentecost, but this is untrue. It’s the time their dove spirit gives them sexual energy and this rite matches a fertility festival observed by many Wiccans and Neopagans on May 1 called Beltane.

In conclusion, the Grail message is just that, messages from the Grail, a code-word for a demonic entity, and the Grail castle, which is the spirit world. Such a message may make reference to God, Jesus or even the Holy Spirit, but they are not the ones revealed in the Bible.

When a person embraces Abdrushin’s messages to the point of becoming sealed into the Grail circle and participates in their worship and festivals, he/she has opened his/her soul to the control of the “old ones” and they will ultimately lead him/her to eternal destruction. The Jesus of the Bible is the only way out of that deadly trap!
