Allah the Deceiver – a Dialogue

One my friends, Alex, recently added me to a Facebook group. This is one of the exchanges I had there with a Muslim lady named Ummi (who has now blocked me). Note: there were several other Christians in this group who masterfully refuted this Muslim’s arguments as well.
***

Ummi: Quran 4:157 “And their saying: Surely we have killed the Messiah, Isa son of Marium, the apostle of Allah; and they did not kill him nor did they crucify him, but it appeared to them so and most surely those who differ therein are only in a doubt about it; they have no knowledge respecting it, but only follow a conjecture, and they killed him not for sure.”

Quran 4:171 “O followers of the Book! Do not exceed the limits in your religion, and do not speak (lies) against Allah, but (speak) the truth; the Messiah, Isa son of Marium is only an apostle of Allah and His word which He communicated to Marium and a spirit from Him; believe therefore in Allah and His apostles, and say not, Three, Desist, it is better for you; Allah is only one Allah; far be it from His glory that He should have a son, whatever is in the heavens, and whatever is in the earth is His, and Allah is sufficient for a Protector.”

Victor: “Surely we have killed the Messiah Isa.” This statement is an impossible one. The Jews who sanctioned Jesus’ death never believed He was their Messiah. They killed Him precisely because they believed he wasn’t their long-awaited messiah, so that alleged remark must be a forgery.

“but it appeared to them so”

So Allah deceived the disciples of Jesus and many other people to believe they killed someone whom they didn’t really kill. Some versions even suggest that another man’s face was put on Jesus’. Who is this “another man”? Muslims are not sure and the Quran didn’t say. Tabari, quoting Ibn Ishaq, said this man was Sergius. Baidawi said he was a Jew named Titanus. Ath-tha-labi says its a Jew named Fal Tayanus. Some Muslims say he’s Judas Iscariot while some (the Ahmadiyyas) claim Jesus only fainted at the cross and woke up in the sepulchre. A deity that can fool his own servants for 6 centuries won’t have any qualms fooling those reading his book as well.

“and do not speak (lies) against Allah…and say not Three. Desist”

We have no reason to lie against the god of Islam. He has already done a pretty bad job by himself. If the word “three” is such a taboo that mustn’t be spoken, why does the word itself occur elsewhere in the Quran (2:196, 2:228, 3:41, 4:3)? Indeed, Allah couldn’t grasp what the Trinity is all about. Yusuf Ali’s version even slyly inserted the word “Trinity” into this text whereas the Arabic word here is thalaathatun which simply means “three.” The holy trinity in Arabic is al-thaaluuth al-aqdas. I guess when you serve a deceiving deity, his traits rubs off on you.

“and Allah is sufficient for a Protector”

Yet in this same sura, we read: “Our Lord bring us forth from this city whose people are evildoers and appoint to us a protector (waliyyan) from thee and appoint to us a helper (naseeran).” (Q 4:75). We are told elsewhere that Allah, Gabriel, the “righteous among the believers” and angels are protecting Muhammad (Q 66:4). I guess Allah’s protection is not sufficient after all.

Ummi: A god dying for the sins of mankind is total bull****! If God is so merciful and gracious, He would forgive those who repent without subjecting himself to torture and humiliated by his own creations!! You mean God made men and then let men torture him and put him to death? What kind of God is that?? Fairy tale god? You mean the men He created are more powerful than Him that they could dictate what God must do?

Victor: Please explain to me how the “mercy” and “grace” of Allah work since he’s a god who victimized and made an innocent person suffer such a grievous torture. This is not befitting. God “is exalted in justice” and “sanctified in righteousness” (Is. 5:16). Again, why would God deceive godly people to make them think Jesus was on the cross? If another man died in Jesus’ place it means Allah deceived the church for 6 centuries until Islam came. So who is to be blamed here? Why did Allah not reveal this “truth” to the disciples but kept them in the dark? Who would then be responsible for the millions of souls who went astray and believed the lie concocted by Allah? A god that has to resort to deceiving his own creation is a weak god. He doesn’t deserve our worship. Such a detestable attribute fits the gods of Greek mythology who enjoy fooling one another.

Ummi: Allah is not a deceiver. But we see lots of examples where your god is a great DECEIVER. I KINGS 22:23 “so now the Lord has put a DECEIVING SPIRIT in the mouths of all these prophets of yours. The Lord decreed disaster for you.”

Jeremiah 20:7 O LORD, you HAVE DECEIVED ME and I was deceived; You have overcome me and prevailed I have become a laughingstock all day long; Everyone mocks me.

Jeremiah 4:10 Then I said, “Alas, Sovereign Lord! How completely you have DECEIVED THESE PEOPLE and Jerusalem by saying ‘You will have peace.’ when the sword is at our throats!”

Ezekiel 14:9 And if the prophet be deceived when he hath spoken a thing. I the Lord have DECEIVED that prophet, and I will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel.

2 Thessalonians 2:11 For this reason God will send upon them a deluding influence so that they will believe what is false.

Victor: Your Allah is the deceiver. “Verily, the hypocrites seek to deceive Allah but it is he who deceives them. And when they stand up for as-Salat (the prayer), they stand with laziness to be seen of men…” (Q 4:142)

“And (the unbelievers) schemed and planned and Allah schemed also and the best of schemers is Allah” (3:54)

“Are they then secure from Allah’s scheme? None deemeth himself secure from Allah’s scheme save folk that perish” (7:99)

“..So they schemed a scheme; and We [Allah] schemed a scheme they perceive not.” (27:50)

The English translators played a word game here. The Arabic word translated as “scheme” is makara which denotes a deceiver or one who connives, and it’s always used in a negative sense. [Thus a more accurate rendering of Sure 3:54 for instance, is “the best of deceivers is Allah”]. Mahmoud Ayoub, after listing its usage in Muslim sources quotes Ar-Razi arguing that “scheming (makr) is actually an act of deception aimed at causing evil. It is not possible to attribute deception to God. Thus the word is one of the [multivalent words of the Quran] (The Quran and its Interpreters, 1992, Vol. 2, 165-6). Alfred Guillaume in The Life of Muhammad rendered Sura 8:30 thus “…and they plotted and God plotted and the best of plotters i.e deceived them with my guile.” (p. 325)

About the Bible passages you quoted: (1) 1 Kings 22:20-23 Reading the preceding verses clarifies this. “Then Micaiah answered, “I saw all Israel scattered on the hills like sheep without a shepherd, and the LORD said, ‘These people have no master. Let each one go home in peace.’…Micaiah continued, ‘Therefore hear the word of the LORD, I saw the LORD sitting on his throne with all the host of heaven standing around him on his right and on his left.” (vs 17 )
This was a revelation exposing the demonic source of the false message given by the false prophets to Ahab which God permitted. God always provides a way of truth distinct from error, its left for people to choose it. This is unlike Allah who is presented as deceiving even godly people for centuries.

(2) Jeremiah 20:7. The two verses proceeding it say: “For since I spake, I cried out, I cried violence and spoil; because the word of the LORD was made a reproach unto me, and a derision, daily. Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forebearing, and I could not stay.”

Jeremiah, like other men who have been tested by suffering, failed God and blamed Him for the insults and bodily sufferings he received. He had been scourged with 39 stripes and been in the stocks at night, mocked by the multitude. Not being told this would happen when he was called by the Lord, he falsely accused God of deceiving him but God gave Him the strength to endure his suffering and proclaim His word. A Bible commentary notes that the Hebrew word pathah translated as “deceived” here “could mean induced or persuaded in a better sense than deceit. It is translated persuaded in Pr. 25:15; and allure in Hos. 2:15” (Dake Commentary, 2001, 1295).

(3) Jeremiah 4:10. The bearded man who gave you this verse did a very poor job. Vs. 9 says “And it shall come to pass at that day, saith the LORD, that the heart of the king shall perish, and the heart of the princes; and the priests shall be astonished, and the prophets shall wonder.” The “at that day” refers to Nebuchadnezzar’s conquest of Judah (2 Kgs. 25:2). Jeremiah reacted in disapproval of Yahweh’s impending judgment on Judah and Jerusalem and accused Him of deception (v 10).

He, like many people today, looked at God’s promises and not at the conditions which had to be met first if the benefits were to be received. God promised peace to Israel on the condition that the people returned to Him (Jer. 4:1, 4). Reading down to vs 11-13, we see that immediately after his initial outburst, Jeremiah returned to deliver the message of God’s judgement on Israel. Shame on Islam’s congress of liars and distorters!

(4) Ezekiel 14:9. Here, God was not causing innocent or sinless people to be deceived or go astray. He is instead handing godless and rebellious sinners over to the desires of their unregenerate hearts. He is giving them exactly what their wicked hearts were craving: “But my people would not listen to me; Israel would not submit to me. So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts to follow their own devices.” (Ps. 81:11-12)

“For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking hearts were darkened …Therefore, God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another.” (Rom. 1:21, 24) The Bible is clear that God’s ways are just and upright and His ways are true. He doesn’t lie and doesn’t lead people astray like the god of Islam. “He is the Rock, his works are perfect and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he.” (Deut. 32:4)

(5) 2 Thessalonians 2:11. Who are the “them” being referring to here? Reading vs 9-10 bears this out. “The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders, and in every sort of evil that deceives those that are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and be saved.” Vs 12 says “and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but delighted in wickedness.”

This speaks of the coming Antichrist, and all those who hate the truth of God’s word and love wickedness will be deceived by his satanic influence. This is the key behind the prevalent deception of false religions such as Islam in these last days. When people reject the truth of God’s Word, God permits them to be deluded. Barnes’ Notes on the Bible says: “The original reason then of their embracing and adhering to the system was not an arbitrary decree on the part of God, but that they did not love the truth. Hence, he gave them up to this system of error. If a man strongly prefers errors to truth, and sin to holiness, it is not wrong to allow him freely to evince his own preference.”

But unlike the deceiving god of Islam God doesn’t put deception in the mouths of true prophets. This is where Muhammad flunked the test. He claimed that Satan injects his falsehoods into the message of every prophet of God (Q 22:52-53). This was to justify his own deceptive messages and all who embrace them will be doomed.

Ummi: Just like you are accusing Allah of deceiving you and the Jews…lol. How appropriate is this verse for you?

Victor: The laugh is on you. In Sura 8:43, Allah says he deceived Muhammad and his men to make them see their enemies as few when they weren’t. In Sura 19:26, Allah tells Mary to lie to people that she was fasting when she was actually eating dates and drinking water. In Sura 17:16, Allah says he commands men to sin in order to destroy them completely. In Sura 34:13-14, Allah says he deceived Solomon’s demons to keep working for him even after he had died. So we can understand why Allah would also claim to deceive Jews and Christians to believe Jesus was crucified.

Deception is an attribute of Allah and its also an attribute of Satan. The Bible says Satan “is the father of lies” who “deceives the whole world” (Jn. 8:44; Rev. 12:9). He deceives the whole world today through false religions, false prophets and false scriptures. A good example is Islam. The Quran is a book of deception.

Sura 105:1-6, tells about an army of Abraha defeated by birds who dropped claystones on them. History shows that the armies of Abraha al-Ashram (d. 553 AD) did invade Mecca during the time of Muhammad, but his army withdrew when smallpox broke out among his troops. Muhammad being an illiterate, probably thought the scabs on their bodies were claystones, so he weaved in the birds scenario into this story. How can such a darn, stupid narrative come from God? Muhammad even admitted: “I have fabricated things against God and I have inputed to him words which he has not spoken.” (The Biography of Tabari 4:111)

If a man can lie so shamelessly about God, what stops him from also lying about Abraham, Mary and even the Lord Jesus? What makes his teachings about sin, the cross, heaven and the afterlife reliable?
