I stated in an article that Muhammad and his followers gained much wealth by taking over the property of the wealthy Jews in Medina after killing them. A Muslim responded to this saying:
“[You] cooked another big lie by saying that Prophet Muhammad PBUH and his companions became wealthy. The Holy Prophet led a very simple, self-denying, modest and immaterial life that even his arch enemies testified to this.”
Notice that this Muslim provided no citation or documentation either from the hadiths or these “arch enemies” to substantiate his claims, yet he called my charge a “big lie.” This is either a bold ignorance or deliberate deception.
But I can prove my charges against Muhammad from islamic authorities. Let’s start with the Quran.
(a) “Did He [Allah] not find you [Muhammad] wandering and give you guidance? And did He not find you in need and make you rich?” (Sira 93:7-8).
Why this statement if Muhammad was a poor, meek and self-denying mystic as this Muslim tries to make him out to be?
Now, where did Muhammad get his wealth from? Let’s read another passage:
(b) “Allah promiseth you MUCH BOOTY that ye will capture and hath given you this in advance and hath withheld man’s hands from you, that it may be a token for believers.” (Sura 48:20)
“Now enjoy what ye have won as lawful and good and keep your duty to Allah. Lo! Allah is forgiving, merciful.” (Sura 8:69)
From these verses, it’s clear that Allah not only sanctioned Muhammad and his followers taking over other people’s property, but also told him that his getting away with such crimes was a proof of divine approval.
Of course, Muhammad was always claiming Allah said this or that when in reality he was the one saying them to justify himself.
(c) “And know that out of all the booty that ye may acquire (in war) a fifth share is assigned to Allah and to the Messenger and to near relatives…” (Sura 8:41)
That means in every war, it was a law that one fifth (20%) of all the spoils obtained were to go into Muhammad’s private account. Poor guy? Nope.
(d) “O ye who believe! When ye consult the messenger in private spend something in charity before your private consultation.” (Sura 58:12)
Consultation with Muhammad wasn’t free; you have to pay to see him. So when a modern Muslim is saying this man lived a modest and immaterial life, you start to wonder who is fooling who.
Now, let’s consult the Hadiths:
(e) “The Prophet said ‘…every apostle was sent to his own people, whereas I have been sent to the red and black, the spoils of war has been made lawful for me and these were never made lawful for anyone before me” (Muslim 4:1058, Narrated Jabir b. Abdullah al-Ansari).
Here, Muhammad was trying to convince his army that Allah has instructed them to attack innocent people, kill them and loot their property as booty.
It seems he said this to response to those who wondered why a supposed prophet of God would loot merchant caravans like a marauder.
He admits that what he is doing has been unlawful for all prophets, but he has been given a special exception. This is how false prophets talk. Muhammad assumes that God changes with the tide of time.
(f) “I followed Umar bin al-Khattab and asked (him) ‘What is wrong with the people (fleeing)?’ He replied ‘This is the will of Allah.’ After the people returned, the Prophet sat and said ‘anyone who has killed an enemy and has a proof of that will possess his spoils.” (Bukhari 4:53:370, Narrated Abu Qatarda).
What he’s saying here is “bring the head, arms or leg of your victim as proof then you will get all his property!” How wicked can you get?
Islamic scholar, Ali Dashti admits:
“This raiding opened the way for the acquisition of power by the Prophet Mohammad and his companions and for their eventual domination of all Arabia; but the immediate step which secured the economic base and strengthened the prestige of the Moslems was the seizure of the property of the Jews of Yathreb” (23 Years: A Study of the Prophetic Career of Muhammad, London, 1985, p. 86)
Muhammad and his followers weren’t different from a gang of thieves after all.
(g) “I have been ordered to fight against the people until they testify that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah and Muhammad is Allah’s Prophet, and offer prayers and give obligatory charity, so if they perform all that, then they save their lives and property.” (Bukhari 1:24).
In other words, even the property of those who refuse to surrender to Islam are not safe too. Thus, on the one hand, we are told that Islam forbids stealing and prescribes amputation for it, yet at the same time, looting the wealth of infidels is allowed.
Muhammad was blinded by greed. Jesus warned: “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possession” (Luke 12:15).
Many Muslims today still follow Muhammad’s evil examples but to emulate such a criminal is to follow the path to Hell.
